Grounded

I am healed. I have full range of motion back in my elbow and soreness is all that is left of my injury. In my last, sadder than usual, attempt to dunk I gained the knowledge of the importance of the "upward swinging arms" (As the Daver had commented was nearly as vital as the jump).

Being grounded for the past 2 weeks made one detail stand out. Even when I was training hard for more spring in my jump, I don't jump enough in my regular day. If you think about it, you can go weeks without having to jump. You can use a ladder or step stool to reach top shelf items, but the need to push off the ground and lift your body airborne to achieve something is not found in daily adult life. A child is always jumping to see above something or reach something, but adults have had everything built for their ease of use in daily activities.

It has taken me close to 3 months to get the spring back in my step, just by getting back into basketball, and now I am about to start jumping... a lot.

  1. Well, as a kind-of-short adult, I find myself jumping to see over things as well!
Glad you're back in the swing (er...jump?) of things. I'm still waiting to buy a PFunk-A-Dunk t-shirt.
