Pick Up BBall

Pick up basketball is really fun. It is also the one thing that has rewarded me with more hospital visits, stitches, and bruises.

I have been trying to get back in bball game shape. I think I am there. Which is good because I might drop pick up bball games.

I was playing the other night at the gym and had a lay up. Enter big black defender who doesn't care about my health insurance policy and then me in a mess on the ground. Now, I don't really blame him for the hard foul, because I was probably about to slam home a fresh funk on him, but don't yell and say it wasn't a foul after I regain consciousness. Trying to jump high and getting shoved in mid air just means falling further. I landed right on my elbow. It went numb and I felt like throwing up. I can't extend or withdraw my arm all the way (about 40% range of motion), but I think it is just a deep bruise.

I guess I am just not accustomed to playing basketball really rough. At least nobody died.

Dude Perfect

My goal is to dunk. Others have goals of making incredible buckets. This is remarkable and it sounds like these guys have a pretty cool mission - www.dudeperfect.com.

Spy Cam

I can't stress how difficult/hilarious it is to take these videos in this usually busy gym.

I have been trying to play a lot of basketball lately to get back in game shape and I can't help doing as Kriss Kross instructs, jump. It helps to try jumping after my bball blood is pumping, I felt froggy, so I set up my spy cam. I caught a few bystanders in the shot, who didn't seem to notice the white guy trying to jump or his secret camera phone in the corner. (Fortunately, one of them has a sweet air ball in the middle of the video.)

In August, as PFUNK-a-DUNK took off, I could touch the blue foam padding on the backboard. Now I can hit the orange bucket below the rim. I can't get the rim yet, but that was as far as I could get at my bball pinnacle back in college. I think it will take another month, and then the fun really begins.

Jock Jams

This picture is for Georgia (You can check her work out here.) She likes blurry photos and if I ever do dunk, I will probably commission her to paint this and I'll place it above my mantle.

Georgia heard about my blog and offered perhaps the best advice I have received:

1. Get a boom box

2. Get Jock Jams

3. Bring 1 & 2 with me to the gym, blare it, and dunk.

Taunting

So I missed a shot. Don't make me come up there.

September Attempt

Each month I am going to try and dunk it. Also, in each of my monthly attempts I am going to start by showcasing a key facet of my game for my mix tape. This month, THE ELBOW PULL UP JUMPER!

My goal is, after a year of effort, to cut a highlight tape I can mail to the Rockets before the 2010-11 season.

***SPOILER ALERT*** I still can't dunk.

I thought Harold Miner did this in the dunk contest, but I might have imagined that or added on to Isaiah Rider's "East Bay Funk Dunk." Anyway, the dunk I attempted is pretty much an impossible dunk.

Launch Delay

Here's the deal - I wake up super early and try to get to the gym before anyone so I can video myself. I started setting up shop and then these clowns come on the court. I had to abort the launch. YouTube is one thing, but I don't think I am ready for a live audience... yet.

I wasn't feeling it today anyway.
